In 2013, a project for 3Doodler 1.0 was posted on Kickstarter, in 2013. It was supposed to be the first 3D-printing-pen. And it was. The project was a great success since its first days on Kickstarter. The project was backed-up by more than 26,000 Kickstarter backers and it summed up a little more than $2,344,000.

In 2015, 3Doodler 2.0 which is an improved version of the original 3D-printing-pen. The new version is slimmer and smoother, being much more easier to paint in 3D.

The new form of the pen, the better heating algorithm, and temperature and speed controls are only some of the new features of the second version of this revolutionary painting method.

To setup the 3d-printing-pen is easy peasy. All you have to do is to connect it to a power source, put a stick of ABS or PLA inside it, and switch the temperature to High. Soon, a LED will notify you when the nozzle is hot enough to begin extruding.

Next, simply hold on the On button and wait until the molten ABS or plastic comes out.

The company behind 3Doodler 2.0

The device is created by WoobleWorks, Inc., a company based out of Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and which has been founded in 2010 by Maxwell Bogue, Peter Dilworth, and Daniel Cowen.

The company is not registered with the Better Business Bureau but got some positive reviews from people who collaborated with it and from former customers.

3Doodler 2.0 – Performances

3Doodler is designed to be a freehand tool, thus it is not even close to the accuracy of a full-featured 3D printer.

In fact, the whole idea behind this project was based on enhancing creativity of the 3D-printing-pen‘s users.

And, to be honest, there are a lot of great 3D-paintings done with this device.

Additionally, 3Doodler 2.0 comes with a variety of nozzle tips, of different sizes and shapes, and a external battery which allows its users to paint even when can’t connect the device to a power source.

On Amazon, the product is rated with only 2.4-stars out of a maximum of 5, which makes the 3Doodler 2.0 3d-printing-pen to be placed behind other 4-stars or even 4.9-stars 3d-printing-pens.

Many negative reviews are related to the fact that the nozzle is frequently clogging, despite the manufacturing company’s claims that the 2.0 version has been designed to avoid clogging of the nozzle.

Additionally, other customers complained that the device stopped heating, out of the blue, and the only solution was to return the device to the producers for repairing or for changing the faulty device with a new working one.

One particular negative review shows that the company is hard to reach by phone or via email.

3Doodler 2.0 is definitely better than the original version but is still underrated in comparison to similar devices from other producers. Moreover, its price is higher than those of better rated 3d-printing-pens which range between $45 and $70.

Additionally, the device received very many negative reviews related to frequent clogging, faulty heating system, or damaged devices that weren’t working at all.

Moreover, the device is not very accurate being based on the drawing skills of the users, therefore if you’re gifted you can have a lot of fun with it or you can create very funny toys and drawings for your kids.

In conclusion, 3Doodler 2.0 is good for fun but it lacks in other aspects.
