Forget about morning smoking habit
If you decided to quit smoking you only need congrats. This is maybe the best decision you have ever took. The problem is that I personally quitted a few times until I succeeded. We all know that it is a great decision, and we all know how much harm cigarettes and any type of smoking (regular cigarettes or e-cigs) can do to us.
The nicotine addiction is not something that easy to overcome. We developed our personal habits related to smoking and it is the most difficult thing to replace those habits especially when the nicotine addiction is making us crave for a smoke.
One of the worst moments of the day is the morning. We cannot start our day without a coffee joined by a cigarette. No matter if our mouth and hands will stink like shit we love it. In the following rows of this article, I will reveal to you a few tips on how you can forget about morning smoking.
You need to clean your house. You need to make some drastic changes and not early in the morning but before the first sunrays shows up. You need to make these preps before you go to bed. Throw everything that will remember you of cigarettes. Things like lighters, cigs or ashtrays should be history. You need to clean everything meaning your house, office desk and car. If in your house someone is still smoking you should ask them in a polite manner to not do it in front of you.
Change your relaxing spots
These days you cannot smoke everywhere you might please and this is a very good thing. Even if I was a smoker, I never liked the idea of eating in a crowded place filled with smoke. You certainly have a smoking place at your office. You should avoid all those places where you smoked in the past.
A good idea will be to forget for a while about coffee as well. Usually if you associate a beverage such as coffee with yours first morning cigarette the triggers will be activated and the temptation will increase quite much. This is the reason why you should not activate those triggers voluntarily or not.
Your smoker routine
If your habit in the morning was to start making your coffee and after that take a shower you should switch these actions. This way you will change your smoker routine and you will create a new one, a nonsmoker routine.
This is the same when it comes about diet. If you are certain thing in the morning and after that or before that you lighted a cigarette, you should change your breakfast content so no aliment will be associated with your old smoker habits.
It might sound a bit strange for you but you can believe that it is real. If you work out your body, you will not feel the need to smoke for a longer period of time. If you go each morning for an easy running session, your lungs will be filled with oxygen and your will feel energized and refreshed. You might not even need coffee this way and cigarettes will be forgotten for a while. Your brain will function better and your entire organism will feel better.
Change the road
If you changed your morning routine you should also change your daily route. You might have had the habit of smoking in your vehicle while you were driving to your office and you got stuck in traffic. You should change the route.
You might not have known until now, but images and places can be strongly related with your habits and they can become real triggers that will cause a relapse. In one word, you should change almost everything. It will be fun to try new things. You might not even think of your life as it is a boring life style.
As any other addiction, everything is in your head. You are the only one who can control these things. If you are stuck in traffic and you see smokers everywhere you must do something to not see them anymore even if it might sound impossible to do.
You could listen to a relaxing music that will lead your mind to another direction such as the next holiday or the last holiday. You have to keep your mind busy with pleasant thoughts so you can ignore what is happening near you.
Usually the smoking need won’t last forever. If you allow those three or four minutes to pass you will not feel the urge anymore. Keep yourself busy and you will not have time for smoking.
This is a great strategy at work as well. If you keep your hands full all the time, you will completely forget about your smoke break. You should avoid people who smoke. Even if it might sound a bit drastic, it is not as if you abandon your regular friends.
I have met someone who said that the only way to succeed to quit smoking is to stay around smokers and not be tempted. This is the stupidest thing that I have heard. The person who said it might never be addicted to anything. Even if it is a legal drug, it is still a drug and a powerful one as well. If you want to succeed, you must avoid anything that could remind you of your old habits.
If you want to quit smoking, and you should, you must make some drastic changes in your life. You will need your family and friends support as well. A real friend will only understand you and he will not tempt you to go back to your old habits. It is far from being the easiest thing to do. In fact it is one of the most difficult things you can possible accomplish but it is a wise decision.
You will feel better, you will sleep better (after a while), you will also eat better. You might even feel the food’ taste. You should not think, however, that once your quit smoking all that carbon monoxide gathered in your lungs would vanish. It will stop spreading but what it was already affected will remain affected even if you quit.
