The use of kettles
This article is maybe one of the most common things that people usually have in their kitchens. It is about kettles and more precisely about electric kettles.
Lately, people want everything to be done fast. No matter if we are in our offices, when it comes about cleaning the house or when it comes about cooking.
Everything must be done fast and well. This is not a bad thing and, thankfully, the technology helps us quite much. The technology sometimes develops faster than our needs because it is anticipating our future needs. This is how we grow.
Their utility proved in time, due to the fact that sometimes it seems that we wait forever for water to boil in order to prepare a tea, a coffee or a soup.
As things must happen fast, also the technology used to manufacture these electric kettles improved in time. These days, you can find a wide variety of products on the market from which you can choose. Some of them are cheap and others are quite expensive.
The following rows are dedicated for the ones who do not have a big budget but they really want an electric kettle. If you are interested you should read the following rows.
Which is best kettle to buy?
There are many types of kettles available, just as I already mentioned. You can buy plastic kettles, cordless kettles, stainless steel kettles or glass kettles.
Each of them could have different capacities, shapes and colors. You can buy travel kettles, which usually are quite small or over 1 liter capacity kettles.
You are the only one who could decide when it comes about this matter.
Most of them function on similar principles:
- they boil water faster than you usually could do it in a pot placed on the oven
- another common feature is that once the water boils, they stop the process automatically
- they have a heating element which must be connected to an electric source
- most of them are cordless free
- some of these kettles might have the heating element incorporated, which makes them non cordless free
- they are safer than any stove etc
As you can imagine each of them has a different price according with its features and with the materials from which they are manufactured.
Expensive kettles Vs cheap kettles
You may wonder why, should you buy a cheap kettle instead of an expensive one. People are used with the idea that as expensive an item will be as qualitative will be as well.
This could be true, but we are talking here about boiling water. Do we really need to pay large amounts just to boil water? I believe not. I personally bought cheap electric devices for my kitchen that lasted longer than others much more expensive.
Besides that we should not forget our natural tendency of replacing our old stuffs with new ones even if the old ones are still working. Considering these aspects buying a cheap kettle but also a qualitative one seems a better idea.
How to choose a good kettle
There are a few things that we should consider, however, beside the price.
One of these things should be the materials from which our new kettle will be manufactured. As I enumerated above, they can be made from certain materials and each of them have pros and cons.
You should also be aware that the materials from which the kettle is made of could influence the speed with which it heats the water but also its lifespan.
Let’s start with plastic. As you might imagine already, these types of kettles are the cheapest. Are they the safest?
The manufactures of these devices are quite aware that their products, no matter how cheap they might be, need to be qualitative enough in order to receive good reviews. They need to sell. This means that the answer is “Yes”, they are safe.
What about the glass kettles?
There are a few advantages here that might tempt you. The glass always looks good.
The transparency of the materials offers you the possibility of seeing the container content. This way you will know exactly how much water is inside.
The main worries, when it comes about a glass kettle, are that the glass could break and also that it could become a bit too scalding. You might stop worrying about this aspect.
Since they were first released on the market their manufacturers improved their technology in order that such accidents will no longer happen.
The stainless steel kettles, however, could be a great choice. They look good in your kitchen (especially if you have matching kitchen devices). I forgot to mention earlier that glass is a very good heat conductor.
The same thing happens when it comes about stainless steel. This means that water will be boiled faster than it usually does. Are they safe? Yes they are.
The down point of these kitchen devices is that they are not transparent at all. The manufacturers, however, created viewing windows, so you can see the water amount left inside. Not all of them have these windows, but you could avoid those.
What makes a kettle safer than others?
The main concern when it comes about kettles is to not get burned by the hot content. Another issue, considering that it is an electric device, is to not get electrocuted.
I will underline that even if you buy a cheap kettle, you should check the handling manual, the guarantee certificate offered by the manufacturer and you should never buy it before testing it. In case you order it online, you should make sure that the seller will receive the product back in case it is not functioning properly and that it will give you a full refund.
The main features that a kettle should have, no matter its price, are:
- To have an automatic off switch button. This way the water will not boil over the kettle;
- Once they are turned off, they should cool down fast. This way they can be handled and stored with no worries;
- A good feature for your new kettle will be to be gifted with a sensor that will notify you if it has water inside or not. Especially when you are dealing with the stainless steel and plastic kettles, such feature could keep you out of trouble in case you are not checking its content before turning it on.
The size is just as important
I already mentioned that the size of these kettles is a very important decisive factor, when you decide to buy them. Naturally, a small kettle will be cheaper than a big one.
The one thing that you should consider is how and for how many persons you will use it. If you have a wide family who will drink tea in the same time, you certainly need a bigger one. The same thing happens when you buy it for your office and you will share it with the entire collective.
You should not forget, however that if you buy a big size kettle and you fill it with water, the boiling time will be bigger.
After giving you all the details above, I have just a few things left to say. I read a few reviews of different types of cheap kettles.
The plastic kettles are indeed the cheapest ones. However, the customers complained that once you heat the device a sudden smell of plastic can be felt.
Others wrote that even the water tasted funny. These are not frequent opinions, but I have found them and I preferred to share them with you.
The stainless steel kettles remain on top of people’ preferences, even if the water does not boil as fast as they expected it to. Another small down point is that not all the models have viewing windows placed properly in order to see its content.
Some of them have these windows placed on the kettle handle, which makes them useless. The glass kettles, however, gained my confidence.
They look good, they have nice features and in matter of safety they do not create problems. When it comes about the over-heated parts of the appliance, even if the body could be hot, the handle remains cold, which means that you can safely use it.
