discrimination based on gender south korea

Since the oldest times, women had to face certain difficulties in their lives. They were never seen as equals to men. The peoples’ mentality did not change that much even if there were made tremendous efforts to prove that women can do all the things that a man can do.

A woman was always seen as the person who must procreate, keep the house in order, raise children and look beautiful. This was her only role. On the other side, men were the ones who had to put food on the table, who had to work and fix things around the house and always be strong and show no feelings.

Even if you believe that this way of thinking must have vanished, you will be surprised of finding out that it did not. These days you can meet men all over the world who are still thinking this way.
In the following rows of this article I will talk about South Korea and the persistence of this phenomenon even if we live in an era where we should not be put in the situation of seeing and facing such situations.

Discrimination in South Korea

If in other countries this discrimination is not so visible and women can work just as men does no matter what the job might be, and if in other parts of the world women are highly appreciated and respected for their achievements in fields where in the past only men were allowed to activate, when it comes about South Korea things are far from being this way.

Women are discriminated at very high levels. I am talking here about big companies that refuse to hire women no matter their level of education, their abilities and no matter what other qualities they might have. They do not even make a secret out of it. Since the moment a woman presents herself at the interviews, she can see and feel that the employer will never take her seriously.

He underlines quite rudely that a woman place should be at home, raising children and washing dishes and not at an interview. I am not talking here about jobs that require physical strength or who knows what else. I am talking about regular jobs. The most common questions are if she plans to get married and to get pregnant. A woman who intends to start a career and succeed in the men world feels small and humiliated from the beginning.
