Are you worried you or someone you love may develop Alzheimer’s disease? You are not alone. An international survey conducted in 2011 by the Harvard School of Public Health showed that Alzheimer’s disease is the second most feared disease, following closely after cancer.
In fact, 25% of respondents said they feared it more than any other disease. Their concern seems justified if we look at the stats. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, the disease directly affects 5.7 million Americans and over 30% of seniors develop it sometime during their life.

As if this weren’t enough, there is no cure for the disease. The available treatments only delay progression and improve the patient’s quality of life, which diminishes considerably as the disease advances.
No wonder so many people would like to know how to avoid the disease or at least diagnose it as early as possible and try to delay its progression through treatment and lifestyle changes. Alzheimer is the most common dementia form in the United States. Patients suffering from it can get as far as losing their short or long-term memory, becoming confused and disoriented, failing to recognize the people around them, being unable to keep track of their meals and medication, and even hallucinating.
