Do you suffer from panic attacks you cannot explain? Science has yet to identify their causes, but some studies suggest they could be a pH problem. This theory opens up new treatment perspectives.
However, before diving deeper into the problem, we should take a closer look at what panic attacks are, what could be triggering them besides pH problems, what evidence connects panic attacks to low pH (acidosis), and what treatment opportunities could become available.
About panic attacks and panic disorder
According to Mayo Clinic, panic attacks are sudden episodes of intense fear. They trigger exaggerated severe physical reactions in situations of minimum danger. Although panic attacks by themselves are not life-threatening, they are frightening.
Those affected often feel they are losing control or suffering a heart attack. Most people have no more than a couple of panic attacks throughout their lifetime. However, some people face recurrent, panic attacks that last quite long and determine the sufferer to fear another attack.
This is where the occasional panic attacks turn into panic disorder. While the condition itself is not life-threatening either, it significantly diminishes the sufferer’s quality of life. Treating it can be difficult and expensive, and takes a tricky combination of therapy and medication that does not always pay the desired results.
