Today, we will speak about several criteria for travelers in choosing the right accommodation. Is it close to the beach? Will you have time to make your food? Does it fit everyone?
Does the price make up for the lack of perks? Choosing a hotel or property rented while on vacation is a matter of taste and can vary according to the occasion and your needs.
Type of the trip
Short trips, for pleasure or work, for example, ask for the practicality and services found in a hotel. After all, who wants to worry about making a bed or cooking in this situation, right?
Hotels have services like clothes washing, food preparing or room service, cleaning and providing grooming products that on a rental the tourist must provide himself.
On the other hand, longer trips for family or friend groups stay can be much more enjoyable and rich if you are living like a local, moreover if the rental is also shared with local travelers.
The rental gives a sort of liberty, to have a cup of coffee on a terrace in your underwear. But here food can be provided in two ways: eating out or preparing in the kitchen, most of the rentals have.
It is a lot cheaper to do so if the group is large, or if the family travels with kids that are picky when they must eat something pre-ordered like usually the hotel offers.
Another important factor for the choice is usually the cost/benefit ratio.
In this regard what will make the difference, in reality, is your budget. There are more affordable options and others with astronomical prices in both cases.
If you are willing to stay in a room in a private home, without renting the entire place, you will probably find lower prices on rentals than hotels. If you want the whole place for you to have more privacy, it may even be cheaper to stay in a hotel.
In my experience, in big cities or on busy dates, like the end of the year or F-1 racing weekends, for example, I found better prices on rentals. For longer periods, I also think that renting a place is more worthwhile, especially since many owners offer discounts for those staying for more than a week.
It is also worth remembering that even if you rent only one room in a family home in general, the kitchen is available, that is, it is possible to save on food too – of course, if you are willing to have some meals at home.
Your security during the stay
In this regard, hotels are a more guaranteed bet.
There are not many security issues posted regarding the use of rentals, nor for the hotels, they are quite isolated. But you can’t compare the security of a hotel, which has 24-hour employees working, with that of a home.
Besides, you must trust the person to be able to leave your belongings during the stay. Rentals offer refunds in several cases and it is always good to also read the comments of those who have already stayed to find out about any problems.
It’s also nice to make your comments after a stay to help other future guests.
Cleaning the place
This is another delicate point. Renting a house and finding a dirty bathroom, for example, could end a trip for someone.
There, the hotels take advantage once again, since they have employees specifically for this task. Rental houses always charge a cleaning fee, but it is doubtable they will always pay someone to do this.
Regarding rentals, some places were cleaner and more organized than others, but they usually are not disgusting while stepping in a bathtub, for example, as has happened for some hotels.
Again, the tip is to see some photos first, read the reviews carefully and check some tips for traveling, as they always help. It is always good to keep an eye on it because it is an indication that the place has already been used by many people.
The whole experience
This is a point that depends a lot on what you expect from your trip and what your goal is. If you are on a business trip, a hotel is probably your best option. If you are on a vacation and want to have a more local experience, renting a house can be very cool.
For the ones that love having the feeling that you are “living” in the cities you visit and you like to do normal programs, like going to the supermarket, to the fairs for organic products and other things like a local, rentals are a good idea.
Of course, the fact that one loves to cook also counts for choosing to stay in homes than hotels when you travel for pleasure. Another nice thing is to have more living space.
In a hotel, tourists are usually confined to the room or else we have areas common to all guests.
Another point to consider is the possibility of meeting new people. By renting a room in someone’s home you will most likely meet the owner. There is that thing, the person can be super cool, give local tips and maybe even become a friend.
